Genius.

Asalaamu Alaykum,

Guess what people? I've come up with a greeaat way to avoid getting yelled at/lectured by the parent species. Read:
You need to be quick and realise that what you're doing or going to do entails a telling off.

Like say for example, your bro can't start his 3000 word essay that he has to submit in 2.5 hours because you won't get off Islamica in protest. He shoulda started earlier, right?

Or you woke up so late that there was no point in you waking up that day at all [how undesihousewife-y! :o]. Or you couldn't wake up at the crack of dawn to prepare a 10-course breakfast for your khandan [whole family] because you had to wait up for your careless sibling to get home and eat before you could retire for the day or you were up ‘til dawn helping that same sibling with his digital media coursework.

In a true desi household it would become obligatory upon the parents to scold the eldest of the female offspring, should any of the above scenarios actually occur.

Here's what you do:

You acknowledge that at the first sight of yourself, you will be pounced upon.

Think before you actually enter the vicinity as the pouncer of what kind of conversation will divert all this rage? [Topics regarding religion always work here.]

Think up of a question that you can pose as SOON as you see your parent. Usually, questions regarding the deen require some thinking before one answers it. This will hopefully trigger off a lengthy conversation, whereby you're learning about the deen and also at the same time avoiding a scolding. By the time you finish, everyone's happy. You're brother's typed up his essay, the day's over and breakfast has already been digested.

I call this...ok I have not yet appointed a name to my masterpiece but please, don’t all rush to call me a genius pants/smartie shalwar all at once. Thank you.

Notes for the kids: children, if you feel you’re always being scolded for things that aren’t really your fault, remember: a lil sabr goes a long way. There is wisdom in every one of our elders’ words. Embrace it.

Ps. This blogger spell-check dictionary thing’s crazy. Coursework is apparently a typo and the next best thing is ‘cork screw’? Haha, wth?

Take care,

Ma'asalaam
